Professor David Macdonald is director of Oxford University's Wildlife Conservation Research Unit and A. D. White Professor
at Cornell University. He is also a Fellow of Lady Margaret Hall at Oxford, chairman of the IUCN/SSC Canid Specialist Group,
and vice chairman of the European Society of Mammalogists. In addition to his research work, which includes more than 300
technical articles, David Macdonald is a successful author-having twice won the Natural History Author of the Year award-and
documentary filmmaker-his films Running with the Fox and Meerkats United won international prizes and his BBC1 Series The
Velvet Claw was broadcast worldwide. From a Glaswegian family, Macdonald lives with his wife and three children in
Oxfordshire, England.
