This tape discusses the Animal Care and Use Committee. It deals with practical issues such as pain assessment, analgesia and anesthesia selection, pre- and post-operative care and aseptic technique. It also discusses health and hygiene for those working with animals. The preparation necessary for recovery surgery on a dog is shown, including sterilization of equipment, control of animal's access to food and water, use of anesthesia, preparing the incision site, and use of sterile surgical clothing. This program also shows methods of testing the effectiveness of anesthesia on animal subjects.
